Avast program not updating

Comprehensive Protection Avast are constantly updating their database of virus definitions, meaning your computer will be protected against the latest spyware, viruses and potentially hazardous websites.Avast’s large and active community quickly alerts the development team of new security threats which are swiftly countered and added to Avast’s significant database.Upgrade your Home Edition to the Professional Edition and support our site!Version 9 (2014) of Avast conflicted with my Mc Afee Firewall rendering my machine offline. Seems to use fewer resources than previous versions.

Following the first Nitro Update, after a month, Avast has released a second program update (FYI, Avast now follows monthly cycle to release new program updates), which after installing the interface shows ‘ with ‘Start now’ and ‘Resolve all’ buttons. Manually stopping and restarting the Avast Service by visiting the Services console won’t help either. Finally I figured out that if you turn off the avast browser add-on's it fixes everything. Of course I know how to deal with this now but for the general non techie how would they ever figure it out.To stop this from happening to anyone else I would highly suggest when installing this version of avast to make sure to do a custom install not the standard install.Like other reviewers it found trojans the big guy did not.It does not suck the life out of a PC, nor does it delay startup by a half hour with no way to stop the AV process's scanning memory, boot sectors and the like. I have it installed on the 3 kids PC's plus my wifes. I don't like the code updates as they pop up annoying messages but for free, this really is a good product.
